Finally Got Some Sleep

Ah. I haven't been able to post all week. That's just not like me. This week has been a shock to my system. I usually work from 10-6, but this week I've had early morning meetings, usually requiring me to leave the house before 7:30, and my whole schedule is thrown off.

I'm a night owl, so it's really hard for me to go to sleep before Letterman. (Funny, I don't even watch him that much, but it kinda marks time, ya know?) So, I end up staying awake until 12 or 1 and needing to be up by 6:45 at the latest. I am NOT one of those people who can function on 5 or 6 hours of sleep, not anymore. I need a full 8 and 10 is even better!

I got a good night's sleep last night 11:30-9am. I'm set for my day.

Tell me about you? Are you a morning person? A night owl? How much sleep do you need at night? (and, include your age, because that makes such a difference, I'm convinced.)

More later I hope. Since I'm awake now and can think...

Hi Lex,

Glad you managed to get some sleep!

I've always been a night person, although raising kids and working forced me to function early in the morning. I get by on 5 hours, but would love to get more. This rarely happens, as my body is used to getting very little sleep.

I was even an insomniac as a child. I had to fake naps when my mother checked on me.

@ Heart

It seems kids change one's life in so many ways. For good (as in forever).

I am more of a morning person if it is during the week. I prefer to be up and at it around 4 or so so that I can get back i bed and just chill by 2 pm and then still be able to get out and hit the streets! LOL. Oh...college years...why didn't I love you more while I had you?!?!?

@KMF

I'm not a morning person but I wake up at 5am daily (except the weekends). I have to be at work by 6:30am but I leave at 3pm. I love to stay up late because it's quiet but I'm usually starting to doz off on the couch at about 8:30pm.

I get about 7 hours of sleep on average but I prefer to have 8-9, which rarely happens. I'm 37 and I sleep like a rock!!

Okay since everyone else ignored your request to reveal their age.. I will make like I didn't see it either. :)

I am an ABSOLUTE night owl. I come to life after 8 pm. I have been known to ketch a vaps and clean my house in the middle of the night. I will party till the sun comes up, literally. I suffer from insomnia real bad.

AND i also need 8 hours sleep minimum. 10 on a weekend. I am not pleasant when i get less than that. They claim u require less sleep as u age but I don't see it.

I am so not a morning person. My brain does not rouse till about 10 am. before that u are talking to my stand-in.

I used to take pills for my insomnia but now I try to eat early and go to the gym before bed. Works so far.

PS. The Sultan gets up at 4 does paperwork and then plays tennis. The Chief gets up at 4 does paperwork and then plays golf. Mr. Man gets up at 4 does work and then goes to the gym.

The message seems to be that the successful and powerful make the most of their days... *sigh* and I so wanted to be successful one day.. but 4 am!! I ain able!

LOL, there is so much to do at 4! Cleaning, writing papers, email checking, showering, etc.! I like to get up and get out before the usual rush so that I can be back in or "free" before the usual rush and I feel like I get so much mor eout of the day! Now, with the baby...things are a little rougher because she does not want to get up and I don't want to have to wrestle with her just to get her on th epotty and to get her shirt on. It is so much easier to just be on her time at the sacrifice of my favorite hours....

Oh yeah...and you know how old I am! 2 to the 7!! Still fine as wine and aged enough to make your mouth water!

@ djn

I'd get fired if I had to be at work by 6:30 am.

@ Spice

I've heard the most highly successful people only get 5 hours of sleep (or less) and are up at 4am.

@ KMF

Sounds like you're destined to be one of those highly successful folks.

Success, to me, means peace of mind, soul and body...not money and power...so...I need my sleep!!! LOL

Oh, Lex, you would not get fired. You wouldn't take that job!

I am 32 and have always been a night person. But I love leaving work in the early afternoon, so I love leaving home before dawn, when it's quiet.

I sometimes have condensed sleep, where I sleep for two hours or so and wake refreshed and feeling like the alarm should be going off already. And if I wake up w/ just an hour to go, I always foolishly just lie awake for a while and then fall back asleep and wake up wrecked. I should just get up, but I can't find anything to do at 4:00am either.

So I need at least 2 hours, if it's between midnight and 2am. Seven seems to be okay, but I can't usually spring up the way I should.

You know me. I am a night owl and suffer insomnia when I don't take my vitamin, which I've been very bad at lately. At night I catch the same vaps as Spice. That's when I can get everything done, busy as a bee while everyone is asleep.

I'm 32, and if I had my way, I'd sleep from 3am to 9am daily, with a quick nap after lunch. However, life demands that I get up much earlier.

44 here... I'm a night owl & always have been. I typically get MAYBE five hours a night.

But on weekends, I seriously decompress. I still go to bed at my "normal" time of 1:00am to 2:00am, but I won't get up until around 10:30.

Ahhhh... weekends!

Oh, there's much to do at 4am. I tend to drift off early say by 8,9 or 10. Then I'm up at 1,2 or 3 surfing the internet, watching tv, cooking, tidying house, doing laundry, reading, going on road to buy snacks. Oh there's much to do.

I used to dance the night away until sun up like Spice. That was in my 20's. Lovely time.

Oh, I need sleep once I get there. it's the getting there that's hard. If i am not asleep by 11:30 pm, I am usually up most the night. Age: mid 30's
